Omkar Prasad Nayyar was born on january 16,1926 at LAHORE(now Pakistan),he didn,t recieved any formal musical education.he developed a liking for music by listening to the prevailing music of the time.
He first signed film KANEEZ(1948) as music director though he had composed only background score for the movie.Later the 1st song recorded by him was for the film Aasman(1952).O.P.Nayyar's music speciality was tunes blended in folk music and rythmic beats based mainly of tabla, ghunghroos, tonga beats thaap.
O.P.Nayyar prevailed during the period what was called the golden era of indian hindi film music and at that time Lata Mangeshkar was the prime voice for the songs,no composer at that time can even think of not using lata's voice for the songs but readers will find it surprising that Mr.Nayyar never used Lata's voice under his composition, this is the amazing record which none other renowned composer of that era holds.
